Eligibility Criteria/Categories

The award will consider nominations of writers who have proven their worth and commitment in writing, entries will be received from individuals,
private sectors, civil society or government and will be rewarded based on the categories;

The Nigerian Writers Awards 2016 will consider nomination for activities in the following period under review: March 2015- May 2016.

1. BUSINESS WRITER OF THE YEAR: A business writer that must have written/writes in newspaper, magazine, online etc. with accurate figures when delivering his/her business report.

2. POLITICAL WRITER OF THE YEAR- A writer that has a vast knowledge in polities, who writes to inform the general public.

3. ENTERTAINMENT WRITER OF THE YEAR- A writer that has vast knowledge in entertainment who has a consistent column(s) in newspaper, magazine, online etc.

4.        FEATURE WRITER OF THE YEAR: A feature writer who is consistent with features, news writing, reports, and the writer must be into media and communication.
5. BLOG WRITER OF THE YEAR- A writer that has a blog and consistent in posting quality information.

6. HEALTH WRITER OF THE YEAR- A Writer that must have written in either newspapers, magazine, online, whose write-ups is consistent
and must have added value in the lives of people. (He/she must not necessarily be a Doctor)

7. SPORTS WRITER OF THE YEAR- A writer who writes on sports and must have written or has a column in Newspaper, Magazine or Online etc.

8. SCRIPT WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must be a prolific writer, whose script(s) must have been staged.

9. SONG WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must not necessary be an artiste but must have had at least a written song that has been sung by any artiste.

10. POETRY WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must have collections of poetry that have been published either in newspapers, magazines, online, book(s).

 

             11.       {C}POETRY PROMOTER OF THE YEAR. He/She must have been able to promote poetry and have a large audience that have benefited from the promotion.

12. FICTION WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must have the creative ability of fiction writing with literary works of imagination.

13. NON-FICTION WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must have the creative ability to write true life stories, the writer’s story must have been published either in magazine, newspaper, online, or acted.

14. CAMPUS WRITER OF THE YEAR- The Campus writer must be either a correspondent, columnist, commentator and must be very good in the field who writes basically for campus. (students in any higher institution are eligible in this category).

15. INDIGENOUS WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must be good in indigenous writing e.g. Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Pidgin, etc. the writer must have written in either magazine, newspaper, online, or have unpublished original collections.

16. FAITH-BASED WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must have been able to change lives positively through his/her consistent write ups in newspapers, magazines, online or book(s)

17. MOTIVATIONAL WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must have been able to inspire and motivate people through his/her consistent write ups in newspapers, magazines, online or book(s).

18. ROMANCE WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must be good in romance writing, must have written in either magazine, newspapers, or have collections of romance write-ups/books.

{C}           19.     {C}SPOKEN WORD POET OF THE YEAR. He/She must have been able to deliver spoken words poetry in events and been well applauded                                                                   by the audience for his/her deliveries.

       20.  DIASPORA WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She much have been able to make impact with his/her works in the diaspora and there by                                                          impacting in the lives of Nigerians.

21. COMIC WRITER OF THE YEAR- He/She must be good in comic writing, must have written in either magazine, newspapers, or have collections of comic write-ups/books.

               22. WRITER’ SUPPORTIVE BRAND OF THE YEAR. The brand must have been able to impact in the lives of Nigerian through their brand support in                                                     the writing field.

 23 . CHILD/TEENAGE WRITER OF THE YEAR - Child/Teenage talents (poetry, news, fiction and non-fiction, comic etc.) between the ages: 6-19 years are eligible for participation in this category.

24. YOUNG WRITER OF THE YEAR: A young writer who must have written vastly (between the ages 20-26 years are eligible for participation in this category)

25. WRITER OF THE YEAR- A writer who must have written vastly, the write-ups must have changed the lives of people positively.

THE REWARD The award will take the form of a glass sculpture of symbolic and artistic value.

In addition, three awardees will benefit extensively from enhanced visibility of their work, through a communication and promotion campaign coordinated by the partner organizations bestowing the award,
organizations/publishers could as well pick any of the category winners to promote the awardee’s works.
